The
New England meetings industry takes Boston’s
Back Bay! Please join MPI/NE and our affiliate
meetings and events associations for a summer
outing to top all summer outings.
Over 200 meeting professionals will embark on
a fun and exciting mobile SCVNGR hunt through
all the best venues and establishments Boston’s
Back Bay has to offer.
Riddles and challenges, all sent directly to
each team’s mobile phones, will allow everyone
to experience Boston in a way they never have
before. Challenges answered bring each team
closer to victory…as well as a great industry-wide
closing reception at The Westin Copley Place.
The 2010 MPI/NE Summer Industry Outing brought
to you by SCVNGR is the perfect forum to interact
with colleagues, counterparts, and members of
other associations in a casual and fun setting.
An interactive mobile game, SCVNGR,
will prompt teams to scour Boston’s best meeting
venues and eating establishments in search of
answers to fun riddles and challenges. SCVNGR is
a game about going places, doing challenges,
and earning points. They are a location based
mobile gaming platform that enables anyone to
develop, deploy and manage sophisticated location-based
mobile games that can be played from any mobile
phone on any carrier.
MPI/NE has built a custom trek on SCVNGR with
custom challenges at venues across Boston’s Back
Bay area to provide a fun and new teambuilding
atmosphere for the summer outing. It is a chance
for meeting planners, event planners, and suppliers
to intermingle with other industry associations
while touring many great locations and venues
that could be used for their next meeting! The
growing trend of mobile interaction, along with
the fun-filled clue activities, is sure to draw
the largest crowd the Meeting Industry Summer
Outing has seen in the past decade!
CSR Component
We will be requiring all
sponsored challenge locations within the SCVNGR
to donate items that will be beneficial for Horizons
for Homeless Children. As teams arrive at challenge
locations, they will be placing these items in
their tote bags. At the end of the event, we
expect to have hundreds of tote bags full of
much-needed supplies for Horizons for Homeless
Children.
Horizons for Homeless Children
There are more than 100,000 homeless children
in Massachusetts, and half of them are under
the age of six. Through their three Community
Children’s Centers, Horizons for Homeless Children
(HHC) provides early education and care to 175
children between the ages of 2 months and 6 years
each day. While these children are learning
and thriving, their parents are working, in school,
gaining the necessary tools to become economically
self-sufficient and searching for permanent housing.
Additionally, HHC has built and equipped special
play areas through their Playspace Programs in
over 140 family homeless shelters across Massachusetts.
More than 1,400 dedicated HHC volunteers regularly
visit these shelters to teach and play directly
with the children staying there. Through these
two direct service programs, HHC provides resources
to homeless families and creates opportunities
for discovery, personal connection, and learning,
allowing these young, homeless children to just
be kids. In addition to direct service, Horizons
for Homeless Children advocates on behalf of
homeless children and their families with policy
makers and provides training and technical assistance
to related service providers. For more information
on Horizons for Homeless Children, visit www.horizonsforhomelesschildren.org.
